Greenhouse gases - Smog from cars and factories a silent killer

According to the director of the Clean Air Project, part of the Climate and Clean Air Project at NRDC, the burning of fossil fuels, such as gasoline, is extremely harmful as it releases poisonous gases and chemicals into the air posing a serious hazard to human health. Progress has been made in the United states in reducing the amounts of smog but more work has to be done. This can be done by reducing the use of automobiles as well as the amount of emission emitted by factories.

It is a scientific fact that air pollution in the forms of carbon dioxide and methane raises temperatures across the world and major cities are in serious danger due to the excess of smog from the burning of these fossil fuels. Places like Mexico City, San Salvador, Los Angeles, Beijing, New Delhi, New York, Cairo, Rome and London are facing serious problems as the level of pollution caused by the burning of fossil fuels is causing mayor health problems.

The World Health Organization (WHO), reports that air pollution is one of the world's biggest killers. According to collected data, it is responsible for the death of about three million people each year. Air pollution is a silent and at times undetectable killers and as a consequence the media does not pay close attention to it. For every person who dies, thousands more suffer breathing problems such as bronchitis, asthma, impaired long function, shortness of breath, and wheezing, leading to a slow and painful death.

In the United States and other industrialized nations the cost of healthcare is growing at unprecedented rates, creating a difficult situation for people already suffering from smog related sicknesses. The inability to pay the inhumane costs of health benefits is leading to more people dying every year. In this scenario money determines who gets to live and see another day.
