Renewable Energy Power - Sun and Wind Power

There is an emergency need to focus our attention on the use of renewable resources. The technology is available and sun light and wind are free sources to harvest energy in environmental friendly ways. So, what is stopping countries from investing more money on renewable energy? The answer to this question may be complex as this would mean the end of the use of oil. This means bankrupting countries which depend solely on oil revenues such as Saudi Arabia causing political instability all over the middle east.

We know that renewable energy is viable, reliable, and is ready to go. In recent years the costs of solar and wind energy have declined significantly making it more affordable for people to buy the technology. The drop in price has led countries, in recent years, to use more clean renewable energy. For example,  Portugal, generated more than 70% of its energy from renewable sources during the first quarter of 2013. In the United States, nine states are getting 12% or more of their electricity from wind. Some progress is being made but much more is needed in order to curb the effects of global warming and climate change.

Renewable energy can meet the needs of nations in a safe and reliable way. Some people argue that solar and wind energy are not very dependable but in addition to to those sources there must be an integration of biogas, biomass, and geothermal sources. As technology improves in the future ocean energy can contribute to fulfill energy needs. Intelligent technology can be helpful to track and manage energy use patterns, provide flexible power that follows demand through the day, and use better storage options.

It is vital to switch to renewable energy if we want to prevent global warming and climate change. We can definitely do this by increasing our energy efficiency, shifting investments to renewable energy products, and stop investing in new fossil fuels and nuclear plants. The money is there to make the changes, specially in industrialized nations, but the political machine has to be willing to make sacrifices for the good of humanity.
